Outside of Whitehorse, Nova Scotia had the highest inflation rate in May, then anywhere in the country. Statistics Canada reports the inflation rate in the province jumped to 5.2 per cent, up from 4.3 per cent in April. The national rate is 3.2 per cent, with Stats Can saying a third month of ballooning gas prices driven by the war in Iran caused the increase. In April, the national inflation rate was 2.8 per cent. According to economists, gas prices rose more than 33 per cent year over year.
