Province announces seafood industry strategy

The province has unveiled a three-year strategy for Nova Scotia’s seafood industry. It is designed to help the industry adapt, compete and create more economic benefit. Kent Smith, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, says the three-year strategy aims to help seafood businesses respond to challenges including rising costs, labour shortages and global trade uncertainty. This year, $1.5 million will be spent on developing the Seafood Sector Innovation Hub for applied research. The $2.2 billion dollar industry is Nova Scotia’s top export industry, employing about 19,000 people last year.
