Despite the Canada Post strike, the provincial government is trying to get important mail like benefit cheques out to people who need them. While people who get paper cheques by mail are encouraged to sign up for direct deposits, the province says caseworkers will notify clients directly to arrange pickup. Starting on Wednesday the government will be able to take some correspondence that can’t be sent electronically to an Access Nova Scotia centre. On November 30th, if the mail strike lasts that long, people who depend on the mail for delivery of high priority items will be able to pick them up at an Access centre on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 pm.
